A STUDIO PARTY (aka a performative celebration of dance studio architecture, experience, history and memory)

For seven months, my collaborators and I danced together in the studios at University of Michigan's Dance Building. Our goal was to develop a wedding-like ceremony and reception to celebrate the dance studio itself. Guests of honor include drag queen dance history icons Pina Bausch, Isadora Duncan and Martha Graham, and a reception preacher played by former Limón and Graham dancer Peter Sparling.

On March 11, 2020, we completed a full dress rehearsal and were ready for three shows with full audiences and an open Bar at the Barre (I was also a very 37-weeks pregnant!). Due to COVID-19 , we went into full lockdown the next day. This footage opens the door to our creative research process, so you can join A Studio Party!
